The Linking Generations Volunteer Grandparent Program was created in 2019 in response to a lack of opportunities for young and old to relate in an increasingly age-segregated society. Under this program, Senior volunteers can volunteer within a school environment – grade 1-8 in different schools in the county of Sherwood Park. Senior volunteers Grandparents share skills, knowledge & experience, all while providing a valuable community service.
To bring in the Christmas break Grandpa Bernie had the students at Madonna Elementary Catholic School decorate gingerbread men.
Lots of different ‘styles’ of gingerbread mean were created. Some with a little icing, and some with a lot of icing. Some with a few decorations and some with a lot !!
After, the students and Grandpa Bernie played a game called “11”. And game involving strategic counting.
The class gave a wonderful gift to Grandpa Bernie. They each read a note saying why they were glad Grandpa Bernie is in their class, and these notes were inserted in a clear ornament so it can be hung on the tree.
Thank you to the grade 4 class at Madonna Elementary Catholic School.
