There is increasing recognition of the importance of developing intergenerational programs, as these initiatives can positively impact individuals of all ages. While the pandemic brought renewed attention to the issue of social isolation among older adults, the weakening of intergenerational ties has been underway for several decades. This decline is partially attributed to shifts in our work patterns and lifestyles. Nonetheless, a growing body of evidence demonstrates the significant benefits of intergenerational relationships.
Intergenerational activities refer to initiatives that bring together people from different age groups. Through the sharing of knowledge and collaborative efforts, these activities foster positive effects on both the social and mental well-being of youth and seniors alike.
Intergenerational programs offer advantages not only to young people and older adults, but also to society as a whole. By facilitating connections across generations, these programs help bridge gaps and strengthen community bonds.
Linking Generations is dedicated to providing intergenerational programming to seniors in the County of Strathcona and the City of Fort Saskatchewan, fostering meaningful connections and enriching the lives of participants.
