Here is a valuable comment from one of our participating teachers

As we prepare to close the books on another very successful VOLUNTEER GRANDPARENT program year, we take this time to say THANK YOU to our numerous Volunteers. The comments we are receiving back from principals, teachers and seniors alike are very rewarding and are proving that a program such as this is very much needed. We believe that our Linking Generations Programs continue to open new opportunities for seniors to interact with youth.

What is the Volunteer Grandparent Program? It is a program that offers seniors an opportunity to help bridge the multi-generational gap. It was created in 2018, in response to a lack of opportunities for the young and older generations to relate in an increasingly age-segregated society.  Participating teachers have a Volunteer Grandparent in their classrooms once per month sharing stories from years ago, and assisting teachers by creating Intergenerational conversations.

Here is a valuable comment from one of our participating teachers:

” You are absolutely amazing.  You came in not knowing what this group of kiddos is all about and you found ways to engage them. Thank you for taking the time and effort to make our grandpa experience a huge success.  You have introduced these kids to things they didn’t know and didn’t realize they could do.  That is monumental for this group.  And for that, I am beyond grateful.  Throughout the year, we have done things and there is always the comment “Remember what Grandpa said” or question of “can we play the game Grandpa  brought in?”  That speaks volumes to the connection you and the students have.  These kids are going to do great things (they already are) and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for them too.  Thank you for being an important part of their Grade 4 year.  We loved every minute of the time spent with you and I selfishly can’t wait to see you again in the fall” .
