As much as ever, FortisAlberta and Linking Generations remain committed to our communities. This year, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, many holiday events and celebrations have been canceled.
FortisAlberta’s Lights of Joy Campaign was designed to engage their customers and employees, while allowing them to continue to contribute to the communities they serve in a meaningful way.
Many seniors living in extended care centres have been negatively impacted this year, due to isolation from family and friends and the result of this touches many people in the communities we serve.
On Nov. 26, FortisAlberta teamed up with Linking Generations, an organization that promotes relationship building, social contact, new skill development and self-confidence between seniors and youth to visit Sherwood Care in Sherwood Park. Christmas cookies/baking, hot chocolate, and eggnog was delivered to our seniors.
During the day, FortisAlberta employees (with bucket truck) and community volunteers strung over 4000 lights on the evergreen trees in the courtyard, and at 6:30 pm that evening, the sky was ablaze with lights. The seniors easily viewed the Lights of Joy from inside the centre.
